| Do reverse osmosis systems remove parasites such as bacteria and cysts like Cryptosporidium? |
| While an all-encompassing health claim cannot be made because of intangibles such as regular maintenance, bacteria and cysts generally can be removed with the use of a reverse osmosis water purifier. Too large to pass through the reverse osmosis membrane, these contaminants are caputured in the third filtration stage. According to the public health safety organization NSF International, the rating for the reduction of Giardia and Cryptosporidium cysts is 1 micron, and the TFM (Thin Film Membrane) membrane used in Premier reverse osmosis systems filters down to 1/10,000th of a micron. That is 10,000 times smaller than these parasites.
